A limestone cave
I created this object as a module for my upcoming limestone cave - with stalactites and
stalagmites. Now I found it is very difficult to texture it in a proper way that
looks really good. I used different approaches, but nothing was satisfying. Here
is my challenge for you: can you texture it with minimal distortions/streching/compressing,
so it looks smooth overall ?? - Maybe someone has the tools/knowledge to delete/reduce the number
of (not necessary) facets to make the model smaller ...?

Here the untextured object - rendered in Poser. |

Here is the mesh - it has 32258 polygons (facets) - in OBJ file format it is approx. 3.8 Megs in size. |

Here I used a rough stone texture. First mapping approach was a projection from the top onto the plane. This looks good in even areas, but ugly on the cone shaped objects. |

A more detailed view: here you can see the distortions, some facets and some strange "stairs" |
